Candle Care 101
Before Burning
-
Remove Packaging and Center your wick
Prior to lighting and enjoying your candle, kindly remember to remove all packaging and then center the wick on a candle, it will promote an even, clean burn.
-
Trim Your Wick
To ensure even burning and minimize soot, remember to trim the wick of your candle at least ¼ inch before lighting it.
-
Clean Your Candle
Removing dust and debris from your candle before burning can prevent unpleasant smells. You can typically do this by gently picking off the particles with your fingers.
While Burning
-
Initial Burn
On the first burn, let the candle burn for about 4 hours. This melts the entire top layer of wax, ensuring it solidifies evenly. If it doesn't burn long enough, only the wax near the wick will melt, creating a tunnel effect where the center burns down and the sides remain hard.
-
Avoid Drafty Areas
Avoid placing the candle in a drafty area, as stray breezes can cause uneven burning or even extinguish the flame. Keep the candle away from fans, vents, AC units, opened windows or any other spots where the flame could be exposed to ensure a consistent and safe burning experience.
-
Maximizing The Aroma
After the initial burn, limit each burn to 2-3 hours. Burning longer can overheat the wax, weakening the scent and potentially causing smoke damage. By positioning candles at a higher level, you can enhance the diffusion of fragrance and ensure it reaches all areas of the space.
Other Safety Tips
Extinguishing Safely:
For the cleanest and safest way to put out your candle, use a snuffer (if you have one). It prevents hot wax from splattering and keeps things under control. Never use water, as it can cause a mess and even break the glass. Blow out the flame gently if you don't have a snuffer.
Keeping it Safe:
Keep candles out of reach of children and pets to avoid them getting knocked over.
Never leave a burning candle unattended, especially when you sleep. Extinguish all candles before leaving the room.
Don't touch or move a lit candle, and avoid moving the container while the wax is melted.
Burning Wisely:
Burn your candle for no more than 2-3 hours at a time. Longer burns can overheat the wax, reducing scent and causing smoke.
Stop burning the candle when about ¼ inch of wax remains. This prevents the container from getting too hot and potentially causing fire.
